What is a Problem Solving Template?

Solve problems together with a proven and structured method for working through root causes by focusing on the problem, cause, effects, and ultimately proposed solutions.   

Explain the Problem

What is the problem?  Be very specific and use data to support your statements.

Identify the Causes

What are the sources or causes of the problem?  Why do we have this problem?  Be very specific.

Identify the Effects

What effects occur as a result of this problem?  How does this problem impact other areas?

Propose Some Solutions

How do we solve this problem?  What solutions do you propose?  Be very specific.

How to Perform a Problem Analysis

1  Set a clear objective

What is the goal of running this Problem Analysis?  Be ruthlessly clear about the objective of this analysis.

When to use a Problem Solving Analysis?

For any problem start by removing the emotion and asking these four questions to the widest possible group.

Process Strategy

Examples:  The new process is slowing the group down.  The process is too difficult to consistently follow?
